Shots Fired During Port Washington Police Pursuit; Fleeing Suspect Crashes at Americana Manhasset

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — A police pursuit that began in Port Washington on Wednesday afternoon ended with a fleeing suspect crashing near the upscale Americana Manhasset retail center following shots being fired earlier in the chase.

Officials say that the incident began at approximately 12:38 p.m. on North Bayles Avenue in Port Washington when Port Washington Police officers were conducting an investigation. Police said the juvenile driver fled, prompting a pursuit.

During the chase, the suspect allegedly struck several vehicles while attempting to evade police, creating multiple crash scenes scattered throughout the area.

Sources tell Priority News Network that several shots were fired at the suspect’s vehicle near the intersection of Port Washington Boulevard and Derby Road, just one block away from the Port Washington Police District office, as the driver continued fleeing from officers.

The pursuit ultimately came to an end when the suspect crashed into a landscaping truck and another SUV on Searingtown Road near the entrance to Americana Manhasset.

Police apprehended the suspect at gunpoint in the parking lot after he allegedly fled the crash scene on foot.

The suspect has been identified as a juvenile, and has been charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, Grand Larceny in the 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, and Resisting Arrest, according to authorities.

The juvenile is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday at the First District Court in Hempstead.

Police have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the attempted murder charges or whether any injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.

Schools in the area were placed in lock-out while the situation unfolded. The lock-out has since been lifted.
