SCPD Drone Tracks Burglary Suspect Before Foot Pursuit, Arrest in Lindenhurst

LINDENHURST, N.Y. — A 26-year-old man was arrested Monday evening after Suffolk County Police used a drone to track him down following a reported burglary in Lindenhurst, SCPD said.

First Precinct Suffolk County Police officers responded to a home on North Richmond Avenue at approximately 7:06 p.m. on August 24 after receiving a 911 call reporting a burglary.

The suspect had fled the area before officers arrived, prompting police to deploy a Drone as First Responder (DFR) to assist in the search.

Using information provided by witnesses, detectives operating the drone located a person identified by police as the burglary suspect and directed officers on the ground toward his location.

Body-worn camera and drone footage released by the Suffolk County Police Department shows the aerial search and officers moving in to apprehend the suspect.

Following a brief foot pursuit, officers arrested Isaias Miranda, 26, on North Kings Avenue at approximately 7:42 p.m., about 36 minutes after the initial 911 call.

Miranda was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglar tools.

He was arraigned Tuesday, August 25, at First District Court in Central Islip.
