Pickup Truck Slams Into Firehouse, Driver Injured In Locust Valley
LOCUST VALLEY, N.Y. - A driver was injured after a pickup truck slammed into the front of the Locust Valley Firehouse on Wednesday evening, causing significant structural damage.
In a jarring turn of events, firefighters found themselves racing to rescue a driver just steps from where they normally prepare to answer the call — this time, the emergency was at their own front door.
The crash happened just after 6:30 PM on Buckram Road, when the truck veered off the roadway and barreled into the firehouse’s exterior wall. The collision toppled rows of heavy-duty turnout gear lockers and left a gaping hole in the building’s front façade.
The driver of the pickup was pinned inside the wreckage and needed immediate rescue, just feet away from the very tools and personnel trained for such emergencies.
Firefighters from several departments specializing in Technical Rescue rushed to the scene. The driver was extricated and transported to a local hospital. While the injuries are believed to be minor, their condition has not been officially confirmed.
Crews worked to safely remove the truck from the firehouse and prevent further damage to the building. The extent of the structural damage is still being assessed by Town of Oyster Bay officials.
No firefighters were reported injured during the dramatic crash.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver or the cause of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
