Crash Outside Broadway Commons Mall Sends SUV Into Pole, 2 Hurt

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. - Two people were injured after a two-vehicle crash outside the Broadway Commons Mall sent an SUV into a utility pole, snapping it and downing power lines.

First responders received the call just before 9:25 AM on Thursday. The crash left one driver trapped inside their SUV after the vehicle was struck on the driver’s side.

The force of the collision pushed the SUV directly into the utility pole, completely toppling it and bringing down overhead power lines.

First responders from the Hicksville Fire Department, along with Nassau County Police officers, assisted the driver in exiting the vehicle after the driver’s side door became jammed in the crash, according to reports.

Emergency medical services evaluated both drivers at the scene, with at least one transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The downed pole and power lines caused major traffic delays, especially in the southbound lanes of Route 106, as first responders and utility crews worked at the scene. PSEG Long Island personnel arrived soon after the collision to assess the extent of the damage and begin replacing the broken pole.

Motorists are advised to expect ongoing delays in the area while crews complete repairs.
