Fatal Woodmere Crash: 1 Dead, 2 Injured After Mercedes Flips Onto Roof

WOODMERE, N.Y. — A fatal crash occurred Friday morning when a Mercedes sedan collided with multiple vehicles and a tree, causing it to flip onto its roof and trap both occupants inside on West Broadway near Howard Avenue.

According to detectives from the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad, the incident unfolded at 9:05 AM when the Mercedes, traveling eastbound, collided with a 2024 Honda SUV traveling in the same direction.

The impact caused the driver of the Mercedes to lose control and strike a tree, overturning the sedan onto its roof. As the Mercedes continued to flip, it collided with a 2024 Nissan Rogue, which was also traveling eastbound.

Tragically, the passenger in the Mercedes, an 82-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police medic. The driver of the Mercedes, a 78-year-old female, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Honda, a 27-year-old female, was uninjured in the crash. She was accompanied by her infant child, who also escaped the crash without injury but was taken to a pediatrician for a precautionary check-up.

The driver of the Nissan, a 33-year-old male, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Authorities have not yet determined if any factors, such as speed or impairment, contributed to the fatal incident.

West Broadway has since been cleared and reopened.
