Nor’easter Topples Trees Across Massapequa as Coastal Flooding Inundates Roads

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. — Coastal flooding inundated parts of Massapequa on Saturday morning, leaving some roads impassable as strong winds toppled trees and brought down limbs onto power lines across the area during a powerful nor’easter.

Floodwaters spread across low-lying roadways as coastal flooding peaked around the morning high tide, with some streets becoming completely impassable.

Near Alhambra Road and Canal Road, residents were seen navigating flooded streets as water pushed into the area during the high tide.

The storm’s strong winds also caused damage throughout Massapequa. Near Gloucester Road and Fairview Road, a Town of Oyster Bay Public Works crew was seen cutting apart and removing a large tree that had fallen and partially obstructed the roadway.

Additional trees and large limbs fell across the area, including some that came down onto power lines as gusty winds continued.

The flooding and wind damage came as the powerful storm battered Long Island with strong onshore winds, rough coastal conditions and significant flooding across vulnerable South Shore communities.
