Coastal Flooding Submerges Vehicles, Roads in Baldwin Harbor as Nor’easter Batters Long Island

BALDWIN HARBOR, N.Y. — Coastal flooding inundated residential streets in Baldwin Harbor on Saturday morning, partially submerging parked vehicles as strong winds brought down trees and utility wires during a powerful nor’easter.

Parked vehicles sat partially submerged along flooded streets, while motorists were seen navigating through deep water that covered portions of the roadway.

Persistent onshore winds pushed water from Baldwin Bay into vulnerable waterfront neighborhoods and canals throughout the morning as coastal flooding peaked around the morning high tide.

At the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Washington Street, strong wind gusts knocked down a tree, pulling utility wires down with it.

The flooding and wind damage came as the nor’easter battered Long Island with strong winds, rough coastal conditions and elevated water levels across vulnerable South Shore communities.

The storm is expected to continue impacting the region through the weekend.
