Police Rescue Large Snake Found on Massapequa Park LIRR Platform

MASSAPEQUA PARK, N.Y. — Long Island Rail Road passengers encountered an unusual sight late Saturday night after a large snake was found slithering around the platform at the Massapequa Park train station.

Nassau County Police and MTA Police were called to the station shortly before midnight following reports of a snake on the platform.

Responding officers found the snake near a trash can and worked to contain it before it could move elsewhere around the station.

Officers from the Nassau County Police Department’s 7th Precinct, along with the department’s Auxiliary Police, initially contained the snake while awaiting additional assistance.

MTA Police officers later arrived and used a grabber to help safely secure the snake inside a crate.

A rehabilitator specializing in snakes was then called to the train station to take custody of the animal.

No injuries were reported during the unusual encounter.

It was not immediately clear how the snake ended up on the train platform. Circumstances at the scene raised the possibility that it had been abandoned before being discovered by commuters.
