19-Year-Old Critically Injured After Being Ejected From Overturned Car in Cross Island Parkway Crash

QUEENS, N.Y. — A 19-year-old passenger was critically injured after being ejected from an overturned car during a crash on the Cross Island Parkway Saturday night that injured four others, NYPD said.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. as a 19-year-old man driving a 2020 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on the Cross Island Parkway in Whitestone.

According to police, the driver attempted to merge from the left lane into the middle lane when he failed to navigate the roadway and struck the rear of a 2008 Honda Accord. The impact caused the Camry to overturn.

Two passengers inside the Camry, a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, were ejected onto the roadway during the crash.

Officers from the NYPD’s 109th Precinct and Highway Patrol, along with EMS units, responded to the scene. The 19-year-old passenger suffered severe body trauma and was rushed by EMS to New York-Presbyterian Queens, where he was listed in critical condition.

The 16-year-old boy suffered minor injuries and was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens in stable condition.

The driver of the Camry and an 18-year-old passenger also suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to Jacobi Hospital and listed in stable condition.

The 42-year-old driver of the Honda Accord suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Jacobi Hospital. A 36-year-old woman riding in the Honda was not injured.

The crash shut down the northbound side of the Cross Island Parkway as emergency crews treated the injured and investigators worked at the scene.

No arrests have been made.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
