Eviction Sparks Standoff After Man Threatens Police With Gun In Levittown

LEVITTOWN, N.Y. — A Levittown man was arrested Thursday after police said he threatened authorities with a gun while being served an eviction notice, prompting an hours-long standoff and a large tactical response.

Police said the man was being served an eviction notice at a home on Gardenia Lane when he told authorities he had a gun and would not go down without a fight.

The threat prompted a large response from the Nassau County Police Department and Nassau County Sheriff’s Department, with authorities remaining at the residence from approximately 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Gardenia Lane was closed between Orchid Road and Clover Lane as specialized tactical units, including the Nassau County Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit and Bureau of Special Operations, moved into positions around the home.

A police armored vehicle was positioned outside the residence while officers carrying rifles and ballistic shields remained behind cover. Authorities repeatedly made announcements over a public address system directing the occupants to exit the home with their hands raised.

The man and his wife were eventually removed from the home Thursday afternoon, bringing the hours-long standoff to a peaceful conclusion.

The man was taken into custody and charged with making a terroristic threat.

No injuries were reported.
