Man Killed After Violent Rollover Crash Leaves Car Destroyed in Uniondale
UNIONDALE, N.Y. — A 25-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning following a violent two-vehicle crash on Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale, according to the Nassau County Police.
The collision occurred at approximately 10:42 a.m. at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Glen Curtiss Boulevard.
According to detectives, the 25-year-old was operating a 2001 Toyota sedan eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle crossed over at the intersection and was struck by a 2006 white BMW traveling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike.
The impact caused the Toyota to overturn and roll before it ultimately came to a stop on its side. The vehicle sustained catastrophic damage.
The Toyota driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by a hospital physician.
The driver of the BMW, a 34-year-old man, and his 34-year-old female passenger were both transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Police said there were no other injuries reported at the scene.
Following the crash, Nassau County Police established a large crime scene as detectives from the Homicide Squad and members of the Crime Scene Section documented evidence and investigated the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
The crash caused significant traffic disruptions throughout the afternoon. Westbound Hempstead Turnpike was closed between Cunningham Avenue and James Doolittle Boulevard while investigators processed the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
