Two Men Found Shot Dead in Basement of Hempstead Home

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Two men were found shot to death inside the basement of a Hempstead home Wednesday morning, prompting a homicide investigation by Nassau County police.

Hempstead Village Police received a 911 call at approximately 10:34 a.m. reporting two unresponsive men inside a home on Angevine Avenue.

Responding officers arrived at 16 Angevine Avenue and found two men deceased inside the basement of the residence.

Hempstead Police Chief Richard Holland confirmed that both men had suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead.

The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad is now leading the investigation into the double fatal shooting.

Police established a large crime scene around the residence Wednesday, cordoning off the area with crime scene tape as investigators worked at the residential property.

The identities of the two victims have not been publicly released by police.

No information regarding a possible suspect or motive was immediately available.

The double fatal shooting comes just two weeks after Hempstead Village officials announced that the village recorded zero shootings during the first six months of 2026, compared with four during the same period last year, according to state data.
