Hempstead Murder-Suicide Leaves Two Brothers Dead, Police Say

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — A double-fatal shooting inside a Hempstead home Wednesday has been determined to be a murder-suicide involving two brothers, according to police.

Police identified Garfield Adamson, 50, of Hempstead, as the shooter and his brother, David Adamson, 52, of Hempstead, as the victim.

Investigators said Garfield Adamson fatally shot his brother before turning the gun on himself and dying by suicide.

The two men were found dead in the basement of a home at 16 Angevine Ave. after Hempstead Village Police received a 911 call at approximately 10:34 a.m. Wednesday reporting two unresponsive men.

Responding officers found both men deceased from gunshot wounds, prompting an investigation by the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad.

Police established a large crime scene around the residence Wednesday, cordoning off the area with crime scene tape as investigators worked at the residential property.

Police initially released few details surrounding the deaths as detectives investigated the circumstances of the shooting.

The incident came exactly two weeks after Hempstead Village officials announced that the village had recorded zero shootings during the first six months of 2026, compared with four during the same period last year, according to state data.
