Gasoline Tanker Carrying 12,000 Gallons Overturns in Carle Place

CARLE PLACE, N.Y. — An estimated 200 gallons of gasoline are believed to have spilled after a fully loaded tanker truck overturned in Carle Place Monday night, prompting a response from fire officials and environmental authorities.

Multiple fire departments responded shortly after 8 p.m. to a motor vehicle crash involving an overturned gasoline tanker on Old Country Road near Clinton Road, according to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The tanker, which has a capacity of approximately 12,000 gallons, was carrying a full load of gasoline when it overturned onto its side just east of the intersection.

Approximately 200 gallons of fuel are believed to have spilled from the tanker, according to fire officials.

One person was reported injured in the crash, the Fire Marshal’s Office said. The extent of the person’s injuries was not immediately available.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was notified of the spill and is involved in the response.

The DEC said the exact amount of gasoline released has not yet been confirmed and that, as of Monday night, there were no known surface waters affected by the spill.

Crews remained at the scene as officials worked to address the overturned tanker and contain the fuel spill.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
