Arrests Made in Brutal Murder Outside Bethpage Hotel
BETHPAGE, N.Y. - Nassau County Police have arrested and charged two Pennsylvania residents in connection with the fatal shooting of a Tampa, Florida man who was gunned down outside of a Bethpage hotel last month.
Sgroilin Santana, 22, of Tamaqua, and Jaslynn Nevaeh Garcia, 19, of Shillington, were taken into custody in Pennsylvania and face multiple charges, including second-degree murder, in the death of 35-year-old Jorge Vazquez.
The brutal shooting occurred on the night of April 2. At about 9:41 PM, Nassau County Police officers responded to reports of a shooting near the Extended Stay America hotel on South Oyster Bay Road. Upon arriving on scene, officers found Vazquez shot to death outside of the main entrance of the hotel. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an intensive investigation by the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania, authorities identified and apprehended Santana and Garcia.
The pair has been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a firearm.
Both suspects are currently being held in Pennsylvania and are awaiting extradition to New York.
Authorities have not released further details regarding a possible motive or the relationship between the suspects and the victim.
The investigation remains ongoing.
