“They Lost Everything”: Hicksville Family Displaced After Mercedes Plows Into Home
HICKSVILLE, N.Y. - A devastating crash on Saturday afternoon left a Hicksville family without a home after a Mercedes-Benz slammed into the side of their house, injuring one woman and causing extensive damage.
The destructive collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. at a residence on West Street. The vehicle barreled across a vacant lot, into the side of the home, smashing through a wall, rupturing a gas line, and finally coming to a stop inside the family's living room. The impact was so severe that parts of the home crumbled, with debris strewn across the property.
A woman inside the house was injured in the crash and had to be rescued through a window by emergency responders. She was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
Neighbors described a chaotic scene as first responders rushed to secure the home and shut off the broken gas line to. The structure sustained significant damage, and the family has since been displaced.
Witnesses reported that the Mercedes was driving at a high rate of speed before leaving the roadway and crashing into the Hicksville residence.
According to a GoFundMe campaign launched by family friends, the vehicle was driven by an elderly woman, and while no one suffered life-threatening injuries, the young family — including a 2-year-old boy — lost nearly everything in the crash. The child’s toys and most of the family’s belongings were destroyed.
“They won’t be able to get back into their house for at least a year,” the fundraiser states. “Please help support this family during this horrific time.”
The campaign is seeking donations to help the family rebuild their lives and secure temporary housing.
The incident remains under investigation by police.
