Teen E-Scooter Rider Seriously Injured in Hicksville Garbage Truck Crash

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. — A 17-year-old riding an e-scooter was seriously injured Monday morning after colliding with a Town of Oyster Bay garbage truck at a residential intersection in Hicksville.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:05 a.m. at Genesee Street and Cortland Avenue.

According to Eighth Squad detectives, the 17-year-old boy was riding an e-scooter eastbound on Genesee Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the Town of Oyster Bay garbage truck, which was traveling northbound on Cortland Avenue.

The teenager suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Police said he was listed in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
