Shirley Man Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Automated License Plate Readers

SHIRLEY, N.Y. — A Shirley man has been arrested after Suffolk County Police said he stole two automated license plate readers from an intersection in Shirley over the weekend.

According to Suffolk County Police, the theft occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, when Miguel Perez, 68, of Shirley, allegedly removed two Axon automated license plate readers from the intersection of Moriches-Middle Island Road and Glen Drive.

Following an investigation, officers arrested Perez at approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, August 3, on Carnation Drive in Shirley.

Perez has been charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree. Police said he was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.

The investigation remains ongoing.
