Partial Building Collapse in Mineola Sends Bricks, Debris Crashing Down
MINEOLA, N.Y. — A portion of a commercial building in Mineola partially collapsed Saturday afternoon, sending bricks and debris crashing into a fence below and prompting a technical rescue response from fire departments across Nassau County.
The collapse was reported after 12:10 p.m. at 158 Third Street, where the rear corner of the second floor gave way.
Bricks, masonry and other building materials fell from the structure, crushing a fence surrounding the property and scattering debris across the ground below. The collapse also left a portion of the building’s interior completely exposed.
The incident prompted a countywide technical rescue response, drawing specialized firefighters and equipment from several departments across Nassau County.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel evaluated the damaged section of the building and worked to secure the scene. The building was unoccupied at the time of the collapse, and no injuries were reported.
Personnel from the Village of Mineola Building Department and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to assess the structure.
Several businesses are listed as operating inside the commercial building.
The cause of the structural failure remains under investigation as officials work to determine what caused the building to partially collapse.
