School Bus Bursts Into Flames in Levittown, All Occupants Escape

LEVITTOWN, N.Y. — A school bus erupted in flames on a residential street in Levittown Friday afternoon, with all occupants escaping before the vehicle became fully engulfed.

The Levittown Fire Department and Nassau County Police responded at approximately 1:45 p.m. to the intersection of Longfellow Avenue and Emerson Avenue, just around the corner from the Island Trees High School and Middle School campus, after receiving reports of a school bus on fire.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing high into the air from a distance as firefighters and police rushed to the scene.

When firefighters arrived, the bus was engulfed in flames. Officials confirmed that all occupants were able to escape before the fire intensified and consumed the vehicle.

Firefighters quickly stretched hose lines and knocked down the blaze.

The charred vehicle remained near the intersection as crews worked at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
