Flooded Bethpage Intersection Leaves Multiple Vehicles Disabled Amid Torrential Rain

BETHPAGE, N.Y. — Multiple vehicles became disabled Monday afternoon after motorists attempted to drive through floodwaters that inundated a busy Bethpage intersection during torrential rainfall.

The flooding occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m. near the intersection of South Oyster Bay Road and South Broadway, when heavy rain led to significant flooding and hazardous driving conditions.

As water rapidly accumulated across the roadway, traffic slowed to a crawl while some motorists attempted to navigate the flooded intersection.

At least three vehicles became disabled after driving through the standing water.

Witnesses also observed several drivers steering onto the center median in an effort to cross the intersection on higher ground and avoid the deepest floodwaters.

The flooding caused traffic delays throughout the area as heavy rain continued to fall Monday afternoon, contributing to worsening conditions on roadways across Nassau County.

There were no immediate reports of injuries associated with the disabled vehicles.

Officials continue to remind motorists to “Turn Around, Don't Drown” and avoid driving through flooded roadways whenever possible.
