5 Injured Following Crash Near Cantiague Park in Hicksville
HICKSVILLE, N.Y. — Five people were injured, and at least one person became trapped inside a heavily damaged vehicle, following a multi-vehicle crash in Hicksville Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:10 p.m., witnesses say a medic with the Nassau County Police Department Emergency Ambulance Bureau came upon a collision involving at least two vehicles on West John Street in front of Cantiague Park.
The medic immediately stopped to assist before additional Nassau County police officers and firefighters from the Hicksville Fire Department responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, first responders found at least one occupant trapped inside a heavily damaged sedan. Firefighters used specialized rescue equipment to pry open the vehicle's door, successfully freeing the victim.
According to reports, five people sustained injuries in the collision. The extent of those injuries has not yet been released.
Traffic was temporarily slowed in both directions along West John Street near Cantiague Park as emergency crews operated at the scene.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
