RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — Firefighters continue battling the rapidly growing Shore Fire in Riverside County after the wildfire scorched more than 2,000 acres, forcing evacuations and temporary highway closures. Hundreds of personnel, air tankers, and helicopters remain assigned to the incident as containment efforts continue.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed shortly after takeoff Monday morning at Edwards Air Force Base in California’s Mojave Desert, killing all eight people aboard. The aircraft erupted into flames during what officials described as a routine test mission, prompting a major emergency response and investigation.

Police arrested a suspect involved in the shootings of five homeless men, two of which fatal, in Washington early Tuesday morning.
