Vehicle Torn Apart in Violent Crash Into Bethpage Fire Station, Driver Seriously Injured

BETHPAGE, N.Y. — A driver suffered serious injuries Wednesday morning after a violent single-vehicle crash tore apart a vehicle and sent it careening into a Bethpage fire station.

The Bethpage Fire Department and Nassau County Police responded shortly after 10:20 a.m. to the crash at Stewart Avenue and Arumdaun Street, directly outside the department’s Station 4.

The vehicle struck a metal pole at the intersection with such force that a portion of the driver’s side was sheared away. The mangled vehicle continued from the initial impact and slammed into the side of the fire station, destroying a column along the building.

The crash also separated the engine from the vehicle, sending it more than 100 feet from the initial point of impact with the pole.

The driver was pinned inside the wreckage. Despite the extensive damage to the vehicle, Bethpage firefighters extricated the driver just minutes after arriving at the scene.

The driver was then transported by Nassau County Police medics to an area hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Stewart Avenue was temporarily shut down in both directions as Nassau County Police investigated and processed the extensive collision scene.

The exact circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Witnesses at the scene told Priority News Network that the vehicle appeared to be traveling “extremely fast” moments before the collision.

No additional injuries were immediately reported.
