Basement Fire Prompts Multi-Department Response in Hempstead
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Firefighters from multiple Nassau County fire departments responded to a late-night basement fire at a home in Hempstead on Sunday night.
At approximately 11:20 p.m., firefighters from the Hempstead Fire Department were dispatched to Rhodes Avenue near Westbury Boulevard following reports of a basement fire inside a residence.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed an active fire within the home and immediately began an interior attack. As crews worked to contain the blaze, additional mutual aid was requested from the West Hempstead, Garden City, Rockville Centre, and Freeport Fire Departments to assist at the scene.
Firefighters successfully brought the fire under control just before 12:10 a.m. Monday, preventing the blaze from spreading further.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
