Argument Escalates Into Shooting Inside Baldwin Home, Woman Grazed by Bullet

BALDWIN, N.Y. — A woman was grazed by a bullet after a late-night argument escalated into a shooting inside a Baldwin home, leading to the arrests of two people, Nassau County Police said.

Officers responded to a home on Temple Court at approximately 11:50 p.m. Tuesday following a report of shots fired.

Detectives said Alfredo Gonzalez, 43, of Baldwin, was involved in a verbal argument with a 25-year-old man outside the home. As the dispute escalated, police said Gonzalez pushed through the man's front door, displayed a firearm and fired a single shot inside the residence.

The bullet grazed the leg of a 28-year-old woman before striking and damaging a kitchen stove. The woman was transported to an area hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

Gonzalez then fled the scene in a vehicle driven by Donna Perez, 47, also of Baldwin, police said.

Following an investigation, Nassau County Police, with assistance from the Suffolk County Police Department, located Gonzalez, Perez and the vehicle in front of a home in Islandia. Both were arrested without incident.

Gonzalez was charged with second-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child.

Perez was charged with second-degree hindering prosecution.

Police did not immediately provide additional details regarding the endangering the welfare of a child charge.

Both defendants were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
