NYC to Host Massive Free World Cup Fan Events Across All Five Boroughs
NEW YORK, N.Y. — New York City officials have unveiled plans for one of the largest free public World Cup celebrations in the country, with fan events set to take place across all five boroughs during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
In a joint announcement, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul, alongside the NYNJ Host Committee, confirmed a citywide slate of official fan zones that will feature live match screenings, cultural programming, and local business activations. All of which will be free to the public.
City leaders emphasized that the initiative is designed to ensure accessibility and community inclusion as millions of visitors are expected to travel to the region for the global tournament.
“When I think back on my first World Cup, some of my most meaningful memories weren’t in the stadium, they were in the fan zones,” Mamdani said in the announcement. “By bringing these free fan events to every borough, we’re making sure everyone can be part of that joy.”
Citywide Fan Zones and Locations
Officials outlined five primary fan event sites, each offering unique programming tied to the tournament schedule:
Queens: USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (June 11-27)
Manhattan: Rockefeller Center (July 6-19)
Bronx: Bronx Terminal Market (June 13-14)
Brooklyn: Brooklyn Bridge Park (June 13-July 19)
Staten Island: Staten Island University Hospital Community Park (June 29-July 2)
The events will span 39 days, featuring daily programming, live match broadcasts, and cultural celebrations reflecting the diversity of New York City.
Ahead of plans, infrastructure upgrades are already underway. At Staten Island’s host site, a new LED scoreboard and lighting system have been installed through a partnership between the city and the host committee. Improvements will benefit the community long after the tournament concludes, officials say.
Safety and Security
With millions expected to attend the events tied to the FIFA World Cup 2026, safety and security planning will play a critical role in the success of New York City’s fan zones.
While officials have not yet released detailed operational plans, large-scale events of this magnitude typically involve a coordinated, multi-agency approach led by the New York City Police Department.
Officials are expected to release more detailed safety guidelines and security protocols closer to the start of the tournament.
