Boat Bursts Into Flames While Being Towed On Meadowbrook State Parkway

MERRICK, NY - A small boat being towed on a trailer caught fire on the Meadowbrook State Parkway south of Merrick Road on Wednesday morning.

Just before 8:00AM on Wednesday morning, firefighters from the Merrick and Freeport Fire Departments responded to a fire involving a boat on a trailer. New York State Police Troopers and firefighters located the fire southbound on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, just south of Merrick Road.

Upon arriving on scene, first responders were met with a large column of black smoke and flames rising from the top of the boat.

The fire was quickly extinguished by fire crews and there were no reported injuries.

Traffic was temporarily delayed in the area while firefighters battled the blaze and the scene was being cleared.

The cause of the fire is currently under determination at this time.
